User HOW DOES SILICONE RUBBER DIFFER FROM REGULAR RUBBER?

Silicone and rubber are now widely used in the market, but many people can't tell the difference between them. Are they the same substance? And which industries they are applied to respectively.Let me answer these questions for you.

Here are some of the differences between silicone rubber and ordinary rubber:

Chemical Composition: Silicone rubber is composed of silicon, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms, whereas regular rubber is primarily composed of carbon and hydrogen atoms. This difference in chemical composition gives silicone rubber unique properties compared to regular rubber.

Temperature Resistance: Silicone rubber has a much wider temperature range compared to regular rubber. It can withstand temperatures ranging from about -60°C to +230°C (-76°F to +446°F) without significant changes in its properties, whereas regular rubber typically has a narrower temperature range.

Chemical Resistance: Silicone rubber is more resistant to chemicals, oils, and solvents compared to regular rubber. It has excellent resistance to ozone, UV radiation, and weathering, making it suitable for outdoor applications where regular rubber may degrade more quickly.

Flexibility and Elasticity: Silicone rubber tends to be more flexible and elastic compared to regular rubber, allowing it to maintain its properties over a wider range of temperatures and environmental conditions.

Electrical Insulation: Silicone rubber has excellent electrical insulation properties, making it suitable for use in electrical applications where regular rubber may not provide adequate insulation.

Transparency: Silicone rubber can be made transparent or translucent, allowing for applications where visibility is important. Regular rubber typically has an opaque appearance.

Biocompatibility: Silicone rubber is biocompatible and is often used in medical and healthcare applications such as implants, prosthetics, and medical tubing. Regular rubber may not have the same level of biocompatibility.

Both silicone rubber and regular rubber have a wide range of applications in a variety of industries, but their properties make them more prominent in certain industries and applications.

Application fields of silicone rubber:

Healthcare:
medical equipment, medical catheters, medical surgical instruments, prostheses, etc.

Electronics:
electronic seals, insulation parts, electronic conduits, etc.

Daily necessities: kitchen supplies, kitchen utensils, baby products, children's toys, silicone molds, etc.

Food and Beverages:
Food-grade silicone rubber is used in food processing, food packaging, etc.

Automotive and Construction:
Automotive seals, vibration absorbers, thermal pads, pipe seals, etc.

Application fields of ordinary rubber:

Automotive industry:
tires, seals, suspension parts, fenders, etc.

Chemical and construction materials:
rubber seals, rubber mats, rubber floors, rubber pipes, rubber seals, rubber mats, etc.

Healthcare:
medical gloves, infusion tubes, medical seals, etc.

Consumer goods:
Rubber products such as rubber, gloves, shoe soles, etc.

In general, silicone rubber shines in daily necessities due to its unique chemical properties and safety properties, and is also more prominent in fields that require special properties such as the medical, electronics and food industries. Ordinary rubber has wider applications in automobiles, industrial manufacturing and construction.
